Life at Newcastle University

Student Life at Newcastle University

Newcastle’s beautiful city-centre campus is where you’ll become part of its community and know you belong; where you’ll have fun, grow among friends and find your future.

With events, activities and campaigns running throughout the year, Newcastle University Students’ Union (NUSU) is how you’ll make a difference, forge new friendships, and create memories for life.

Learning at university is different to studying at school or college. You’ll need to be more proactive and self-motivated, but the university will work with you to build the skills you need through:

  • Academic Skills Hub: Developing study and digital skills, academic practice and writing, with one-to-one support, drop-in sessions and an online Academic Skills Kit (ASK). An ASK podcast, themed clinics, and the ‘Your Skills’ programme provide additional support, with specific study resources for international students.
  • Maths-Aid: rop-in sessions and bookable consultations for maths and statistics.
  • Language support: Free in-sessional English classes and tutorials for non-native English speakers to improve reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
  • Digital resources: Newcastle’s virtual learning environment gives 24/7 access to course content, study materials, module and programme information.
  • Language Resource Centre: Resources and opportunities for language learning in over 100 languages, including English.
